[ ADDITION / ALTERATION ]
A sculptural addition and extensive alteration to an existing traditional 1950s family home.
We interpreted the overall existing four property cross leased site as an agglomeration of dwellings of different eras and characteristics, and proposed a ‘fifth building in the village” as a design response to the primarily functional need for additional physical habitable space.
The contemporary addition connects to the simple weatherboard & gable roofed existing house, albeit barely, through a visually transparent linkage, thus separating the new and the old to give the overall home a visually recognisable evolution.
New materials co-exist sympathetically with old, while the spatial configuration reflects a way of living more aligned with today’s lifestyle.
